March’s Assignment Gallery – The Magic Number 3

For the month of March, we asked our readers to show us their best work with the theme in mind of that crazy little digit lying between 2 and 4 on the numeric scale, the Magic Number 3. Our fantastic readers/creatives first loaded the bases and instead of simply hitting a triple, they managed to nail it out of the park with the idea of “three” in their images! That’s right, they literally cleared the bases either in triptych fashion, in compositional design or literal interpretation. This gallery portrays a virtual trifecta of creativity. A while back in a previous assignment we asked you all to show us your “critter” photos, and they are back here in full force…in threes of course. Animals, flora & fauna, animate & inanimate objects alike make a showing in prime (number) fashion! And if a capture of a joyful three-year old on her birthday isn’t a brilliant expression of the concept, nothing is!

More than one person mentioned in their submissions that they struggled a bit with this concept, but it was also a source of fun even in the struggle. What would these assignments be if they were without their challenges? The nature of photography in general is truly the old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again!” – or in this case, “…tri, tri…tri again!” In our opinion every one succeeded with this assignment simply for the attempt. Congratulations to all those who submitted and hopefully you are seeing in threes still, using the magic of 3 as your guide when out shooting in any environment. We triple-dare ya!

Kudos to the brave souls who submitted images for the very first time. It’s usually a huge first step for anyone to show the world their particular vision of it. See? Wasn’t so scary, now was it? As the year keeps rolling along, we’ll keep on giving you homework…on a monthly basis. Here’s your next assignment for April.
