Post 9/11 GI Bill Benefits for Photography School

Are you a Veteran – or the spouse or dependent of a Vet – who qualifies for the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill? Are you interested in receiving professional training in photography? Did you know that our Career Training program is approved for GI Bill benefits?

Rocky Mountain School of Photography has been working with the Veterans Affairs (VA) office for the better part of two decades in helping Veterans and their families further their education and pursue careers in the fields of photography and digital imaging. Every year in our Career Training program, a handful of students have made the experience a reality thanks largely to the financial assistance they receive from their VA benefits. Although these benefits vary from person to person, and depend on a variety of factors, it is possible for VA benefits to cover the entire cost of tuition for the complete Career Training program.

If you are a Veteran and are interested in learning more about how your benefits could be used to enroll in Career Training, our Career Training Specialist, Wendy Ford recently met with representatives from the Montana VA office in Helena, MT and is up to speed on some of the recent changes made to the Bill. Some of these changes include:

• Extension of benefits to members of the National Guard
• Expansion of the annual book stipend eligibility
• Expansion of coverage to non-degree granting programs (vocational, technical, certificate, apprenticeship, OJT programs).
• A living/housing allowance (in certain circumstances only)

If you are interested in using your benefits to attend Career Training, Wendy is a great resource for information and can steer you in the right direction.

Other key resources to help you begin the process of using your benefits with RMSP are the VA’s own eBenefits link, and this website that provides links to the Regional Offices of the VA.  The eBenefits link allows you to view lots of information including your eligibility date, end date, amount of entitlement used, history and lots more.

If you have worked with the VA to attend Career Training, your experience is valuable and might be helpful to others. Please add your comments and insight below.

About the Author

Andy Kemmis
Andy Kemmis is the Publications and Correspondence Specialist for RMSP. Decoded, this means that Andy is the guy who handles the school's graphic design needs, manages our ever-growing image library and is responsible for the wickedly clever words that fill our annual course catalog. He landed this job by touting his 3rd place finish in the Lewis and Clark Elementary Spelling Bee as a third grader. A great day for Andy consists of drinking coffee in the morning while listening to The Clash, going skateboarding or snowboarding and shooting photos of either, eating a turkey sandwich with avocado on it, and finding newer, more creative ways to not act his age...which aint what it used to be.

Hey Andy & RMSP! I am a pre-9/11 vet and I was able to use my GI Bill Benefits back in ’05. Just a heads up for any future students.

My best to everyone in Missoula … miss you much!
