With many folks traveling home for the holidays, how can they resist bringing their cameras with them to capture the familiar environment of loved ones and places so full of memories? Every year, RMSP reviews the results of the past year’s schedule of our popular Weekends events that take place in various cities across the U.S. We then decide where to hold them in the following year. Since this schedule kicks off again next month in 2011, we thought this would be a perfect time to give our readers a chance to entice us with what makes their hometown so special. What are the subjects that make you want to take out your camera in your town? Is it the corner grocery store where the neighborhood hangs out? Or the tree-lined park where families frolic? Gardens, bike paths, bustling downtown streets, iconic buildings, bays, rivers, lakes, deserts, flora and fauna…we want to see your world through your eyes. Of course, we encourage you to put your heart into it for full effect. Give your city a big ol’ hug and share it with the world!
The assignment this month is to photograph your hometown as if shooting on assignment for a travel magazine. Make us want to come and visit your neck of the woods!
Please answer the following questions:
1. Give us a pitch: what makes your hometown so photographic?
2. What type of environment exists in your hometown? People? History? Culture? Liveability?
3. Did you see your familiar surroundings any differently while shooting this assignment?
Please send all submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please submit only three images for this assignment. All images should be in jpeg format, 72 ppi, with the longest side of your image measuring 600px.
